Axis Security Cameras Surviving Blizzards and Hurricanes

Axis Cameras Still Going Strong after Hurricanes and Blizzards!

Use weather proof Axis Cameras
Axis IP Cameras surviving and still working through hurricanes.

It hasn’t always been easy choosing the right security camera. As a nationwide security systems company and security integrator we are not the biggest security company but choosing Axis IP Cameras and Axis Security Cameras as our standard has made us one of the smartest security camera installation companies. The reason it hasn’t been easy? First Axis Communication manufactures IP Cameras, access control systems, and the companion NVR line. But the bottom line is that Axis systems and cameras are not the cheapest. However, time and time again clients who listened to us and chose Axis IP cameras for their deployments have gotten extraordinary results, and great return on their investments. With Axis IP cameras you may spend more money up front but the cameras are reliable and survive in the harshest conditions.

Axis Cameras Survive 2 Hurricanes and 1 Tropical Storm in Florida!!

It was 2012 and we just completed an 85 Axis IP Camera installation in southern Florida. Our cameras of choice were Axis Communications cameras. The cameras were a combination of P3364-VE, and P5512-E and P5512-E Axis IP Cameras. We just completed the job, and our worst fears became realized. Our Axis Camera system installation was about to be tested by Hurricane Sandy. Sandy was the most destructive hurricane in 2012. Our site didn’t take a direct hit, but the power got knocked out and there were torrential rains. After a day or so power was restored. We powered our systems up and after all of that we only had 3 downed cameras. I thought that was amazing. And of those 3 we were able to connect with them remotely and turn on the internal fan and clear 2 of them. Only one of them failed, and it was quickly replaced by the Axis Communications team.

Axis Camera Systems very low Failure Rate and IP66 rated!

Well we weren’t done yet after that first year, these cameras survived another hurricane, and tropical storm. And in 2017 they took a direct hit from Irma. We thought all our cameras would get ripped off the building with the piping and installation. But because of a great security camera installation by IT Risk Managers LLC the infrastructure and cameras survived. The Category 6 cable survived and the fiber optic cable survived. We used a weather proof, UV rated hard innerduct pipe to run all our Category 6 and fiber optic cables through. Miraculously the Axis IP Cameras survived and so did the security camera installation. During Irma we lost 2 cameras, but out of 85, all I can say is wow. These cameras meet IP66 protection standards, but I think they go beyond IP66 standards. Can you imagine security cameras surviving and working after such harsh storms?

Axis Camera
Axis IP Cameras are built to survive Chicago winters!

Axis IP Cameras Survive Blizzards and Unpredictable Weather in Chicago

Now let’s move on to Chicago. The problem we’ve always had in Chicago is the freezing, sub-zero temperatures. One day it could be 65 degrees and the next day it can be below zero. But most importantly it’s the humidity and extreme highs and lows. Extremely moist highs and lows cause condensation. But with the environmental controls built into the P3375-VEs we can blow air inside the dome and clear condensation. Our Chicago based Axis Security Camera installations have survived -10 below temperatures, heavy windstorms, and rain storms. Out of the 300 to 350 Axis cameras we have installed in the Chicago area, we have less than a 1% failure rate per year. Again, as a Chicago based security integrator and security camera company those are great numbers. IT Risk Managers LLC is very satisfied with the Axis Communications security and camera line.

Axis Communications Provides Great Support!

And when there has been a failure, Axis Communications has had fantastic support. They have US based support that resolve help tickets fast, help us troubleshoot effectively with minimum hassles and downtime. Every Axis IP Camera or Axis Companion unit we’ve ever had to return has been replaced quickly with no problems.

Axis Security Cameras reliable workhorses
Axis 5514 reliable outdoor rated Axis IP Camera.

And the great thing is the P3364-VEs, M3204s, P5512-Es cameras continue to survive the harshest weather conditions and still have life. At this point in time it looks like these cameras may have a 10-year lifespan. I have no doubt the replacement cameras will be as reliable and probably more reliable then these older axis camera workhorses. The Axis P3364-VE is being replaced with the Axis P3375-VE. The Axis P5512-E IP camera has been replaced with the P5514-E Axis camera. And the Axis M3204’s has been replaced with Axis M3214.

Paxton Access Control Net2 is great for protecting your Chicago building

Paxton Net2
Paxton Access Control is a reliable keyless door entry solution.

Paxton NET2 IP Based Keyless Entry

Paxton Access Control Net2 is a keyless door entry system leveraging network based technologies like IP, and Ethernet. What this means is you don’t have a bunch of different systems doing the same things on a bunch of different platforms.  We converge everything on a robust hi-speed IP data network. We chose Paxton as our door access control partner, because their technology was built from the ground up based on IP and IP network technologies, versus some of the other vendors who have bolted on these newer features on to an older platform. IP enabled systems are really what opens up the systems and gives you a ton of features, manageability, and reliability. This is Paxton Access Control IP enabled systems.

Paxton Access Control Feature Rich

Paxton’s Net2 Access Control is a feature rich, reliable, flexible network enabled access control and door entry system. The Paxton Net2 system is managed from a central PC, and communicates to the readers, controllers, and systems over an IP network. Paxton Access Control is also easy to install, and designed to make the management of any building simple. As an installer it’s easier because Paxton Net2 offers a range of IP, battery powered, door entry and wireless or wired door controllers.

Paxton Net2 Wireless features

By utilizing IP-based network technologies Paxton Access Control provides many features. Wired Access Control, Wireless Access Control and Video Door Entry. Using Net2 PaxLock gives you the ability to use wireless in a door handle by communicating via wireless to the control server. This saves wiring and installation costs. The Net2 video entry solution provides a entry touch panel that has a directory and two way camera to provide an elegant front entrance solution.

Paxton Access Control Software features

Since Paxton’s Accces Control is built on IP technologies they offer an extensive array of software features. You can have an unlimited number of workstations that can access the administrative and management interface. You can also grant the administrators different management levels and give them as much or as little authority to control the Net2 system as needed. Paxton’s Net2 software also has great reporting and you can view events in real time. The software also has anti-passback features, and Landlord features that gives you advanced security and permissions options.

Paxton Net2 Easy to expand

Another value of Paxton’s access control IP architecture is its ability to expand. Adding a new door or integrating a new features is similar to adding a PC on a network. The system auto discovers and is also SIP compatible, meaning it’s not necessary to have telephone connections. Doors can be answered from smartphone table or PC. The Net2 entry panel also displays the occupant by name and can be interfaced with a video camera surveillance system.

Paxton Access Control Readers

Paxton Access Control also offers a wide variety of reasonably priced readers. They include the standard P Series reader, energy saving readers, long range readers and a marine reader, built to withstand severe weather. ButterflyMX Intercom Systems are taking Chicago by Storm

ButterflyMX
ButterflyMX-The first smartphone enabled video entrance solution

Get ready the ButterflyMX Intercom system may be your next doorman

We’ve come a long way. And if you walk through Chicago neighborhoods or visit office buildings you are probably seeing more and more video entrance intercom systems. These video intercom systems have become virtual doorman. A Butterfly intercom system is an entrance system which features a touch screen at the building entrance. The system integrates a camera, a microphone and a directory. The greatest feature is the smartphone application that allows tenants to use the system. When you download the application on your phone and when you are given the right credentials by your property manager the Butterflymx Intercom becomes your virtual doorman.

Cloud Based Video Intercom System

ButterflyMX is the first cloud based smartphone intercom system. Butterflymx intercoms offer a variety of products for your Chicago office and property. Imagine not having to wire up a new intercom system and using smartphone and cloud based technologies to give your tenants a seamless entry experience. When using ButterflyMX’s technology visitors, tenants, deliveries, property managers and owners are given an elegant and reliable entrance solution enabled by the cloud and an application that can be downloaded right on your smart-phone.

Mobile Device Enabled

With the ButterflyMX intercom systems wherever you have access to a mobile device is where your doorman is. Tenants and property managers in any type of property can grant access to the front building entrance from anywhere they have access to a mobile device. ButterflyMX intercoms provides an elegant keyless experience at an affordable price.

IT Risk Managers LLC – Top ButterflyMX installer

ButterflyMX is in use throughout the United States. A leading Butterflymx intercom integrator IT Risk Managers LLC is rolling out the solution to dozens of buildings in Chicago. Matt Sommerfeldt, IT Risk Managers, CTO, was an early adopter. “When I found out I can offer my customers a smart-phone and cloud based intercom solution at such a reasonable price we had to make the move to ButterflyMX intercoms”-Matt Sommerfeldt, CTO, IT Risk Managers LLC.

Great Administrative Functions

ButterflyMX transforms any smartphone into a mobile video intercom system. Once the intercom has been installed and the app has been downloaded, a visitor calls from the intercom comes through the app as a video call wherever you are so you can view the visitor before granting them access to the building. The property management dashboard allows administrators to review door release logs for security as well as add, edit, and delete residents and manage panel settings.

How ButterflyMX works

Visitors at the entrance can scroll through a touchscreen contact list or type in a search box to find a resident. It’s similar to the smart phone contact directory. The visitor can call you, leave a message for you, or let you know you have a delivery. ButterflyMX will then send a notification to your smart phone. You can see your visitor right from the smart phone application. You can then swipe to grant the visitor access, decline access without the visitor knowing or you can tap to initiate a video call. You can also keep track of who you let in. The app also allows you to see messages from visitors. You can also give your visitors via a virtual key to get in for a limited period. A QR Code is generated and can be texted to your visitor and when at the entrance the QR Code can be put up to the camera and building access can be granted. Go here to learn more about Video Intercom Solutions!

ButterflyMX Intercom packages

The ButterflyMX intercom consists of a touchscreen interface which sits at the front of your building. The second part of the system is a mobile app which is downloaded on your smartphone. ButterflyMX intercom systems packages start at $3500.00!

Yammer a great Office 365 Tool and it’s free with Office 365

Use Office Yammer 365
Yammer Office 365 is a great communications tool

Yammer Office 365 Tool

Yammer Office 365 has replaced whiteboards for me. I admit it I was a whiteboard junkie. And I mean physical hanging on the wall erasable whiteboard junkie. I had 4 boards in my office and a large board in the conference room. And each of my team members had boards in their offices. I would track orders, projects, costs, margins, man-hours well you get the picture. But that was some time ago. I must admit I wasn’t really happy with other Microsoft products for bulletin board, whiteboard type needs. That is until I met Yammer! I’ve recently started using yammer and maybe you’ve already tried it but if you haven’t and you have Office 365 give it a go. Yammer is part of the Office 365 subscription.

Yammer Office 365 works like an office bulletin board

It works like a company bulletin board or company whiteboard however conversations and postings are memorialized. It’s similar to Facebook but better in a business way. And you can easily scan previous conversations and postings quickly to see where things are at. You can put file attachments with postings. You can forward conversations. You can have a bunch of different groups and boards, that can be shared, made public or kept private, depending on how you want to use it. You can also look at attachments that are connected to the post. I wouldn’t use it as a project management tool Office 365 has other better project management tools. But as far as a communications tool and a bulletin board it’s great!

We use Yammer Office 365 very informally

On our company board I have techs who are posting what they’re up to for the day. For instance, I’m at Client ABC and I’m working with Janet on setting up her new laptop.Or John over at Company XYZ needs pricing on a few laptops. These aren’t formal help desk tickets just a heads up on different things going on like various projects, client information requests, vendor questions things like that. We use it very informally. I want to keep it upbeat and positive so people can communicate in an open team mate scenario. I don’t want to use it to micro mange people. It’s great for today’s generation Y flat organizational structure!

Other Useful Yammer Office 365 Features

Some of the other features that are useful is being able to attach files to posts. It maybe something as simple as a lunch outing invite or a more serious technical bulletin release that needs to be quickly distributed to the engineering team. It can also be configured on your smart-phone so you receive alerting when something is posted to a group you belong to or a response to a conversation thread occurs. You can also update and post from your smart phone.

Yammer Office 365 is free with your Office 365 subscription

And one of the best features is if you have Office 365 you can download Yammer and get started today. It’s actually a very simple uncomplicated tool. Start small with a couple of close team members and see how it goes. Then you can roll it out to larger groups and see better uses for it as you go along. Go here for more information on IT Managed Service offerings.

Good luck posting and of course if you have questions reach out to your ITRM tech. Or call Rick Bolda at 630-918-7370.
